Presentation:

Nasal prosthetic rehabilitation: the Johns Hopkins experience and future directions

Since starting to produce prosthetic devices in 1998, the author has incorporated numerous developments in his approach to making nasal prostheses. Currently, a combination of conventional and 3D technology-driven workflows are being used, including 3D medical imaging-based reconstruction, scanning, digital sculpting, and printing. This approach has led to improved treatment planning, total appointment time, accuracy of form, and patient acceptance of nasal prostheses.

Pre-surgical planning using 3D models and newer generation printers offering biocompatible/sterilizable materials provide the ability to design and print patient-specific models and surgical guides for placing implants for prosthetic retention or possible surgical reconstruction.

This presentation will also comment on perceived benefits of the AHEAD implant system, based on the author’s prior experiences using multiple osseointegrated retention systems for prosthetic rehabilitation.
